After this blog post about my calf strain my physical therapist, Meredith Soelberg, sent this article from University of Maryland’s Medical Center regarding bromelain as an aid for tissue repair. I hit the local health food store and grabbed a high potency supplement, but knowing “whole foods win” I grabbed a whole pineapple as well.

I followed the instructions from How To Cook Everything (if you don’t have this as an iPad app you’re blowing it) to slice the pineapple into manageable pieces, then decided to throw it into a chia pudding tonight for dessert. You can find a few different chia pudding recipes online but the one from vegan triathlete Brendan Brazier’s Thrive Foods book is my favorite. Here’s the turn I took on it tonight, adding pineapple for some extra bromelain for tissue repair.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup Water
  • 2 tbsp Chia Seeds
  • 1/3 cup raw Cashews
  • 2 fresh Dates, pits removed
  • 1/4 cup frozen Blueberries
  • 5 pieces fresh Pineapple
  • Cinnamon
  • Sea Salt
  • 1 tbsp Green Vibrance

Directions:

  1. Put 3/4 cup water into the blender
  2. Add 2 tbsp Chia Seeds to the water in the blender, set aside and let the seeds soak for 15-30 minutes (I cut up the pineapple while these were soaking)
  3. Add the rest of the ingredients to the blender
  4. Blend
  5. Set half aside for another day, eat half now

PS: I’ve also been popping Mt. Capra’s Capraflex, which contains natural glucosamine in addition to bromelain and some other goodies. I want to race in a week. Pulling out whatever might work. Let’s be honest, if I could meet the devil at the crossroads, I would.

Enjoy!
